Editor in Chief: Martin M. LeWinter
Dr. Martin M. LeWinter, MD is Professor of Medicine and Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, Associate Chair of Medicine, and Director of the Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy Program at the University of Vermont. He received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University, his M.D. degree from New York University and sub-specialty training in Cardiovascular Disease at University of California, San Diego. Dr. LeWinter's research interests are focused in the areas of cardiac mechanoenergetics, diastolic function and dysfunction, myofilament alterations in cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure and the effects of diabetes on the heart.
He has received research support from the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association and is the author of over 130 original research papers, over 50 book chapters and review articles, and the Editor of two books. He is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, the Cardiovascular Section of the American Physiological Society and the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences, a member of the Association of University Cardiologists, and a recipient of a Fulbright Research Fellowship. Dr. LeWinter has served on numerous Editorial Boards and research review committees and is an Associate Editor of the journal Coronary Artery Disease. He is a former member of the Cardiovascular Subspecialty Board and currently serves on the Self-Evaluation Process Committee of The American Board of Internal Medicine. He is cited in “Best Doctors in the United States”.
