Editorial Board

Deputy Editor in Chief

The deputy editor in chief provides support to the editor in chief on editorial decision-making, and is responsible for editorial-decisions when the editor in chief is unavailable or has declared a conflict of interest. 

Donald J. Egan, OD, FAAO

Dr. Egan is a Professor and the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the College of Optometry at the University of Pikeville, the Leading University of Central Appalachia in Pikeville, Kentucky. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and also completed a Post-Doctoral Residency in Clinical Optometry at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science after which he continued as a member of their faculty.  Subsequently, Dr. Egan joined the faculty in St. Louis of the newly established School of Optometry at the University of Missouri as well as the St Louis University School of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology.  While a tenured faculty member at UM-St. Louis, he also served as a voting member of the FDA’s Ophthalmic Devices Panel of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health.  Dr. Egan continued his passion for teaching as a hospital-based optometrist at the Geisinger Medical Center Department of Ophthalmology before relocating to another new College of Optometry at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California before moving to Kentucky. Dr. Egan’s scholarly activity additionally includes, invited lectures, scientific posters, article reviews and numerous publications in referred journals. His main interests are optometric education with an emphasis in contact lenses.
