Editor in Chief

Jim Nuovo

Dr Jim Nuovo is a Professor and the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at the University of California, Davis in Sacramento, California. He is the Founding Director of the Chronic Disease Management Center and Vice Chair for the Department of Family and Community Medicine, also at the University of California, Davis. Dr Nuovo started his career in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Washington before moving to the University of California in 1992.

Dr Nuovo earned his MD from the University of Vermont before continuing his education and training in Washington as part of the US military.

The recipient of more than 20 grants, Dr Nuovo has published over 40 peer reviewed articles, a book titled ‘Chronic Disease Management’  and several book chapters, invited commentaries, and National presentations. Dr Nuovo has received an Outstanding Paper Award from the AAFP 37th Assembly, an Army Commendation Medal, and an Outstanding Faculty Award from the University of California. He was recognized in the Medical Board of California Newsletter in 2009 and in Newsline.

Dr Nuovo’s research includes care quality improvement in patients with chronic disease and his current focus is telemedicine intervention for improving outcomes of rural patients with diabetes.

The Role of the Editor in Chief

The editor in chief is responsible for editorial decision-making on papers submitted to the journal.  The editor in chief is also responsible for editorial matters that include but are not limited to journal supplements, the journal's aims and scope, the editorial board and volunteer peer reviewer pool, editorial assessment of video abstracts, assignment to published papers of endorsements, and for consulting on pre-submission inquiries from authors.
