Dr Nigel Irwin BSc (Hons), PhD, PgCHEP, is a Lecturer in Pharmacology at the University of Ulster, Coleraine, Northern Ireland, UK. He was awarded his primary degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Ulster, Coleraine and subsequently completed his PhD studies in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Ulster. Dr Irwin also spent a research year in diabetes at the University of Nevada, Reno, USA.
His current research theme focuses on the potential of novel incretin-based drugs for the treatment of degenerative diseases. Dr Irwin holds several patents and has published over 120 peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international conferences. He is a member of several professional societies, committees and editorial boards and has received honours and awards for his work to date. Dr Irwin regularly reviews papers and grants for leading organisations.
