Libertas Announces LOCKSS Collaboration

Posted Tue, Mar, 20,2012

Libertas is pleased to announce its collaboration with LOCKSS.  Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe is based at Stanford University Libraries and provides award winning digital preservation of scholarly content.  LOCKSS uses ACM research award receiving technology to ensure that archives hosted by libraries around the world have collected all intended content, and where discrepancies are found content is repaired automatically.

This development represents the second major expansion of Libertas’ article archiving program in 2012 following our previously-announced collaboration with CLOCKSS.  Libertas is obliged to its authors to ensure that the integrity of its web-based articles will remain unchanged and available in perpetuity.  To ensure this goal is achieved articles are archived in multiple international archiving systems.

Victoria Reich, Executive Director of the LOCKSS Program at Stanford University Libraries comments ”I am pleased that through the LOCKSS program, Libertas Academica content will be preserved in libraries worldwide ensuring access for our community's faculty, researchers, and students.”

Tom Hill, CEO of Libertas Academica writes: “We’re very pleased to deliver even greater long-term endurance for articles published in Libertas journals through our association with LOCKSS.  We consider that LOCKSS delivers real value to the research community and we look forward to continue to working with LOCKSS in the future.”
