Associate Editors
Responsibility for editorial decision-making in respect to all submissions to the journal has been delegated by the editor in chief to the associate editors. The editor in chief retains responisbility for editorial matters including but not limited to journal supplements, the aims and scope, the editorial board and volunteer peer reviewer pool, and for consulting on ad hoc editorial matters such as pre-submission inquiries from authors.
Dr Thomas Dandekar
Dr Dandekar is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Bioinformatics at the Faculty of Biology, University of Würzburg, in Würzburg, Germany. His previous appointments include positions at the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry in Munich, Pasteur Institute in Paris, Heidelberg University, Freiburg University and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg. Dr Dandekar’s bioinformatics research focus is regulatory and metabolic cellular networks, protein function and structure, regulation in RNA and DNA and experimental verification of predictions.
In addition to serving as a board member at the Theodor Boveri Institute, Dr Dandekar served also as a member of the German Research Foundation review board for bioinformatics, is currently in the German Research Foundation review board for scientific literature and information systems and is a reviewer for the Leibniz Association, Humboldt Foundation, as well as several Bioinformatics and molecular journals.
Dr Dandekar has published over 220 peer reviewed papers and in 2007, was awarded the BMC Hot 100 Scientist award for top open access publications.
Dr. J. T. Efird
Dr Efird completed his Doctorate in Epidemiology (Biostatistics Concentration) at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University (ECU) and has a joint appointment as Epidemiologist/Chief Statistician in the Center for Health Disparities Research. Prior to joining ECU, Dr. Efird was Director of the Biostatistics Facility at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (Honolulu, Hawaii) and an Associate Member of the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii.
Dr. Efird’s research interests include genetic epidemiology, cancer informatics, brain tumours, soft-tissue sarcomas, and HPV-related cancers. Additionally, he is founding co-chair for the Advances in Bioinformatics and Genomics Symposium series. Dr. Efird has over 100 publications in scientific journals and proceedings. Dr Efird is also Editor in Chief of Cancer Informatics.
