Editor in Chief: Gilles Guillemin

Dr Gilles Guillemin has been a Senior Research Officer at the Centre for Immunology in St Vincent’s Hospital (Australia) for 10 years. He is the Head of the Neuroimmunology research group in the Pharmacology Department at the University of New South Wales, where he has been a Senior Lecturer since 2000. Five years ago also he became an Honorary Associate of the University of Sydney upon recommendation from his colleagues, where he also lectures. Dr Guillemin is an NHMRC Research Fellow, as recipient of the R.D. Wright Biomedical Career Development Award. He has published over 50 papers and edited a book, “Neuroanatomie fonctionnelle: La cellule microgliale”. He has also contributed to 8 other books and presented at over 60 conferences.

Dr Guillemin is heavily involved in tryptophan research, as his group is one of the world’s leading research groups working on neuroactive metabolites derived from tryptophan. He is also on the executive committees of the International Society for Tryptophan Research and the Neurotoxicity Society. His current research interest is studying the involvement of tryptophan catabolism (via the kynurenine pathway) in human neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and brain tumours.
