Praveen Kumar

Praveen Kumar, MBBS, DCH, MD is Associate Chair, Department of Pediatrics, Visiting Professor of Pediatrics, University of Illinois, Children's Hospital of Illinois, Peoria, IL, USA.

Dr. Kumar completed his medical education and received his MBBS, DCH and MD (Pediatrics) from University of Punjab, India. Subsequently he completed a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Before moving to Peoria, IL, he was professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and an attending neonatologist at Children’s Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL. Dr. Kumar has published over 70 articles and published a book for primary care providers on congenital malformations in 2007. Dr. Kumar acts as a reviewer for several pediatric journals and has served as an editorial board member of International Journal of Pediatrics, Dataset Papers in Medicine and World Journal of Clinical Case Conference.

Dr. Kumar is an active member of several societies including Society for Pediatric Research, American Academy of Pediatrics. During his stay in Chicago, he was active in regional efforts to improve perinatal care in the state of Illinois and served as Chairperson of Fetus and Newborn/Hospital care for children committee of Illinois Chapter of AAP, and was a member of Genetic and Metabolic Advisory Committee of Illinois Department of Public Health, Chairperson of Illinois Department of Public Health Critical Congenital Heart Disease Work Group and an executive committee member of Perinatal Quality Collaborative of Illinois.

Dr. Kumar was a member of AAP Committee on Fetus and Newborn and a liaison member of AAP Neonatal Resuscitation Program Steering committee from 2007-2013. As a member of these two committees, he participated in publication of 7th edition of Guidelines of Perinatal Care and was an assistant editor of the 6th edition of the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation. In 2011, he served on the Workgroup on Screening for Critical Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease for Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Heritable Diseases in Newborns and Children (SACHDNC) which developed the strategies for implementing screening for critical congenital heart disease.  Dr Kumar's institutional webpage is available here.

The Role of the Editor in Chief

The editor in chief is responsible for editorial decision-making on papers submitted to the journal.  The editor in chief is also responsible for editorial matters that include but are not limited to journal supplements, the journal's aims and scope, the editorial board and volunteer peer reviewer pool, editorial assessment of video abstracts, assignment to published papers of endorsements, and for consulting on pre-submission inquiries from authors.
